We’re happy to announce the winners of the Sugar Mouse competition! Thank you to everyone who participated! All of the entries were brilliant, capturing the wonderful fun of Summer Christmas, and it was hard to pick a winner.
Congratulations to iwanttotieyourshoe! (Entry pictured above.) Such a clever sugar tube mouse!
Also, because of the long delay, we have a second tea assortment to give away to one randomly chosen participate. Congratulations to kestrel337!
I apologize again for the very long delay in announcing our winners. I hope you all enjoyed participating and we really do hope you had a nice Summer Christmas. :)
I am so sorry to spring this so late, but linguini17 never received a Secret Santa gift, I think, and I couldn’t let someone be gift-less! So, I drew you this little picture- Martin is grumpy and Douglas is a-scheming, and I saw you liked those two so I hope you’ll enjoy it! Thank you everyone!
Hello! I think a majority of them have been- a few were sent to people directly, which is completely fine! I think there are a couple that haven’t quite been finished yet, and only one I haven’t heard from at all. So if anyone is still waiting, please let me know :))) Us admins are gonna judge the sugar mouse comp soon, so there’s that still to look forward to!
drgrlfriend, your Secret Santa gift is this lovely poem!
'Twas June 24th and all through the plane No one said anything, not even Douglas complained The flight was boring, and seemed pointless too Silence in the flight deck, with so little to do But as the hours counted down, it seemed to someone That he should make this summer Christmas fun! Yes and that man was steward Arthur Shappey Smiley and bouncy, he’s relentlessly happy And it seemed to him, and summer Christmas drew near He should pass on some joy, some true summer cheer! His mother, you see, lacked his goofish grin, So he decided he should cheer up Carolyn! He poured pineapple juice, and gently declined, The notion that his mother would have preferred wine, And though Arthur knew Christmas needed a cake, Helsinki had proved that he shouldn’t bake, So he reverted to old recipes, tried and tested, Martin agreed surprising rice couldn’t be bested. And as the hour drew on, and it got quite late, Arthur begged Douglas, to help decorate, Martins umbrella made a stand in tree, And Arthur hung paper chains all around Gerti, Tobelerone foil was cut into stars, As Arthur gabbled about bears, yellow cars, The plane came to land, and Arthur held everything steady Knowing the summer surprise was just about ready, But Martin was doubtful, ‘I have to confess- Won’t Carolyn ,mind that we’ve made such a mess?’ Douglas agreed ‘Arthur I’ve had the same thought- You’re mother doesn’t seem the summery sort’ But Arthur was unstoppable, he remained adamnt That his mother would think summer Christmas brilliant, And he knew that as MJN was closing soon, As Martin left them for Zurich this June, Carolyn needed a brilliant day, To remind her why they flew the plane anyway. But nevertheless, as the landing drew near, Martin and Douglas shared the worrying fear, That Carolyn would, in truth resent, Decorating Gerti, no matter the intent. And so as the plane screeched to a halt, Douglas prepared to say it was martins fault, But both were destined, to be surprised, For, when Arthur, welcomed Carolyn inside, They saw a look they hadn’t seen for a while, At the Christmas surprise, she managed a smile.
I didn’t realise the summer christmas tag would be so full of random stuff, so I might have missed a few peoples’ secret santa gifts. As it’s been a little hard to keep track, if anyone hasn’t received a gift please could you pop me a message? Thank you so much! I hope you are all having a lovely week :)
Here is my Summer Christmas present for klecksfarbe; sorry it’s late, dear! I’ve always loved the St. Petersburg episode, especially how the dicey landing goes and what a united front Martin and Douglas seem to present in facing down the evil Gordon Shappey. Consider this a “deleted scene” that explains some of the newfound camaraderie between the two of them. Douglas Richardson & Martin Crieff, a little bit of emotional hurt/comfort, can be read as gen or pre-slash depending on your goggles. ;-)
“Mayday, mayday. Golf Echo Romeo Tango India, suspected bird strike. We have one engine on fire. Request immediate return and priority landing St Petersburg.” Martin gripped the control column with white-knuckled fingers, struggling to keep GERTI’s nose up as the aeroplane shuddered and bucked.
“Golf Tango India, roger your mayday. Continue as cleared, contact Pulkovo, approach one two four decimal two.”
“Roger.” The tremor was falling out of Martin’s voice now. “One two four decimal two,” he confirmed.
“Good luck.” ATC’s words were hardly encouraging, but Martin couldn’t spare a thought for that now.
“Fire is out, Captain,” Douglas reported. “One two four decimal two is selected.” Martin could feel Douglas’s eyes on him. “Martin, do you want me to land it?”
Christ, it would be so easy, to let Douglas do this. Douglas who never messed up, Douglas who always came out on top. Not Martin, against whom Lady Luck seemed to hold a personal grudge. But Martin was keeping GERTI level, transferring control now would add a level of risk they could not afford. And Martin was Captain.
“No. I’ll do it,” Martin said, his voice conveying all the steadiness and confidence he didn’t feel. He was so braced for an argument that he hardly comprehended Douglas’s soft-spoken reply at first.
“Post-flight checks complete.” Douglas’s voice was still uncharacteristically subdued. “Carolyn and Arthur have gone along to the terminal. Ready to brave the cold again?”
Martin could feel it coming, like the tide pulling sand slowly and inexorably from underneath his feet and it was only a matter of moments until he fell. He cleared his throat, aiming for a steady tone of voice despite the iron band that seemed to be tightening around his chest, squeezing the breath from his lungs. “You go ahead. I’ll — I’ll just check a few more things here.”
“You’re sure?” He could feel Douglas’s hesitation.
“I’m sure.” He kept his eyes on the control panel, still feeling Douglas’s gaze on him. Please go, he thought as the cold sweat prickled up his spine, his vision starting to grey around the edges. Please. The only thing worse than having this happen was to have Douglas still here, watching it happen.
I hope you had a LOVELY summer christmas! We got a good amount of secret santa gifts posted, but we are still lacking a few. A couple of people have spoken to me, and it’s completely fine because the deadline was very sudden! I shall wait a little longer, and then I may pop a message to you just to check how it’s all going! It won’t be shouty- I am WAY more like Arthur than Carolyn. Anyway, happy holidays!
